What types of funeral services do we offer?

There are lots of different options for a funeral service. Most funerals in the UK today are cremations (rather than burials). We cater for all, those that perhaps want a ‘no fuss, simple funeral’ to those that want a full celebration. This page covers the cremation funeral service (if you’d like to read about our funeral burial services click here).

Whether cremation or burial, we honour the life of the person who has passed away. The funeral service can be in accordance to the deceased's wishes, preferences of their family or their religious/non-religious beliefs.  After the funeral service, they would be cremated and the ashes given to the family.

A Funeral Director (Tailored Funerals) can provide:

Non-attended Funeral cremations

We carry out a private cremation without a funeral service to allow you to plan a memorial with your family and friends.

Attended Direct Funeral cremations

An attended funeral service held at specific times stipulated by the crematorium.

Traditional Funeral Service cremation

Full funeral service held at a time of your choice (pending crematorium availability).

We ensure that everything is taken care of in advance, and co-ordinate so everything is done respectfully and lawfully.  This means on the day of the funeral, you are able to focus on mourning and remembrance of your loved one.

How do you arrange a cremation funeral service?

Generally for those contacting us we will organise and guide you through the process.  It can be a stressful time and you have responsibilities but you may also be grieving while making the funeral arrangements for someone you care about.  To make this difficult time easier for you please read - How to arrange a funeral service.

  • Take your time

You have lots of decisions to make, do so when you feel ready to cope.  Don’t feel pressured.

  • Take care of your love one

They need to be transported into the care of a funeral director.  However, you can choose later on which funeral director you feel is best to run your funeral service for you, and your loved one can be moved.

  • Check if there are any pre-arrangements

The venue you choose will impact your options and costs.  Remember that you can choose venues in different areas. Sadly when meeting with some funeral directors, there may be pressure to make expensive selections, even if the wishes of your loved one were just to have something simple.  We’d suggest reviewing options at home online or over the phone so that you can make choices without any ‘sales’ pressure (we created our online price planner so you can see all the costs without any pressure).

Funeral Type Tailored Funeral Cost (Average) Average UK Cost
Non-attended Cremation £1350 £1,700
Attended Cremation £2,695 £3,600

Non-Attended (also called Direct cremations) are a simple and affordable alternative to a full service funeral, without compromising on the quality.  A large amount of funeral costs comes from the venue (crematorium) so a non-attended service reduces the fees.  This means we carry out a private cremation without a funeral service so you can plan a memorial service with your family.  This service means additional work such as embalming, viewing of the deceased and additional transportation isn’t required.

How much does a funeral service cost?

Our costs are from £995 (click here to view our packages) however, the UK average cost for a cremation funeral £3,250.  Costs can be worrying, and often come as a surprise if the death is sudden. Call us for help if you have any worries, we are happy to guide you.

Quality shouldn’t be forgotten here, sadly there are tragic funeral service stories that have happened with other funeral directors.  The overall care and quality of service provided can vary significantly, we ensure that a dignified funeral service is provided, transparency of costs, and a personal touch from a team that cares.

COVID-19

Who can attend a cremation funeral service?

Currently in the COVID-19 world we live in, only up to 30 people attend a cremation funeral service. However, no-one should attend a funeral if they’re unwell with Corona Virus symptoms.

You can still attend a funeral if:

You're self-isolating because someone in your household has symptoms but you do not have symptoms yourself
You're self-isolating because you've travelled to England in the last 14 days

If you choose a non-attended (direct) cremation funeral service, then there would be no attendance and you and your family can arrange a memorial service before displaying or scattering the ashes. For more information, please view our COVID-19 update page. .

How do you choose a cremation funeral director?

Sadly, not all funeral directors are the same, some have even turned a distressing time into a disrespectful sales process of ‘low price’ over good service. On a day that you’ll remember for the rest of your life, where you’ll be saying goodbye to a dear friend or someone you love, we feel respect and professionalism should be first. This doesn’t mean it will cost more, it’s that a good service will be ensured on a deeply personal occasion.

When choosing someone to guide you through the cremation funeral service, think of the following to make sure you find the right one that suits you!  (As you’ll see, this list is unbiased, we just want to ensure you find the right fit for you and your loved one).

  • Take your time

Research services, prices and reviews before shortlisting two or three.

  • Compare services

Make sure they offer what you want, for example, do you want a non-attended funeral (sometimes called a direct funeral) or do you want someone to arrange a full funeral service for you.

  • Look at qualifications

Check they are qualified to do the job!  See if they have a Diploma in Funeral Directing with the National Association of Funeral Directors.

Also, ensure they are members of the Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF) or the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD). These associations have codes of conduct that their members abide by.

  • Compare prices

Ensure you add disbursements (3rd Party costs) and check what each quote includes (or doesn’t).  Be sure to ask for a full price breakdown before giving any commitment so you know all costs.

  • Someone who makes you comfortable and at ease

This can be a very traumatic time, your chosen funeral director will share a special moment in your life that you will never forget.  Feeling comfortable with the funeral director we feel is one of the most important elements.  You’ll feel at ease they are at the funeral, comforted that they’ve respected your wishes and supported by their personal care.
